About The Animal Pen
It's curious how some young children gravitate in a certain direction that eventually becomes their path in life as adults. A little boy who loved playing with the building materials at his uncle's hardware store eventually became the renowned Canadian architect, Frank Gehry. Less notable are people like Bob Fick, who loved to collect rocks as a child and eventually became a well-respected local gemologist in Winchester, PA.

It's obvious that some of us are born with a passion that touches us so deeply it scents the air that we breathe and influences the choices we make in marriage, homes, and jobs. It guides us, invigorates us and gives us purpose. In my case, that something is animals. Anyone born with such a passion soon learns that to deny it or ignore it results only in unhappiness. The best thing we can do for ourselves and for the world around us is to be true to ourselves.
Strangely, passion does not necessarily equate with natural talent. I wasn't born with a magic touch for handling animals any more than a person impassioned with aviation is capable of piloting a plane without taking flying lessons. The gentle hand I have with God's creatures and the way in which I understand and appreciate them were acquired through years of experience. If I was given any gift at all, it is the creativity that manifests itself through my artwork and writing. It was only natural for my passion and my gift to eventually converge.

As Linda Naiman philosophized in her article, Life as a Work of Art (Shared Vision Magazine, March 1995), "Remember how you played as a child; what absorbed you to the extent that you lost track of time? Your child's play is the source of your genius, the key to your creativity. It is the clue to your unique gift you have to offer the world..."
So you see, I do not write with an ordinary pen. It is a pen inspired by intense love, devoted interest and zealous passion. The Animal Pen.
